Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast

2007

Modified religious figures, wood, acrylic paint, ribbon, adhesive

Jesus snake: 61 cm long, Pope snake: 91cm long

Beauty and the Beast is made from religious figures that have been cut and reassembled as snakes, based on the design of a common Mexican toy. Referencing the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden and the story of David and Goliath, this encounter of a reptilian Jesus and Pope alludes towards discrepancies between original thought and contemporary action.
