More than a hundred years ago, the GarcĂa-Naveira brothers created one of the most singular, original and enigmatic gardens of the 20th century – and the whole of Europe – in their home town of Betanzos in Galicia, Spain. An amalgam of vegetation, fountains, sculptures, tree-lined avenues, greenhouses, pavilions, grottoes, topiary of curious shapes, and allegorical reliefs, the garden is full of messages yet to be deciphered and has given rise to the most varied analogies and interpretations. El Pasatiempo has suffered the relentless passage of time and only a small part of it has survived to the present day, but it still demonstrates the uniqueness of its place and continues to hold many mysteries about its genesis.
This portfolio is a limited edition of twelve images by Canadian artist Robert Waters that were created for the book EL PASATIEMPO Y OTROS JARDINES (EXTRA)ORDINARIOS, edited by Ignacio Somovilla and published by Encyclopaedia Botanica in 2024.
