The Penis Mightier Than the Sword

The Penis Mightier than the Sword

2007

Novelty pens, hardware, wall

122 x 25 x 15 cm

The Penis Mightier than the Sword is a wall-based installation made with “Tip ‘n Strip’” male nudie pens. The pens all bare images of men whose underwear disappears when turned upright, and they are installed on the wall in the shape of a sword or cross. The installation hijacks the adage of ‘brain over brawn’, suggesting an inherent connection between violence and male sexuality. Furthermore, in reference to sexual abuse within the Church, it suggests something sinister buried in the ‘higher moral ground’.
